@ThePowerofElephants Go To The Woodland Park Zoo. They Have Maybe Too Much Space!! I Went There Yesterday. ITs The Best Living Environment They Could Have!
@ThePowerofElephants I agree with everything (more space, better environment, etc.) EXCEPT the enrichment I think is adequite, I mean painting?! What more do they need?
The keepers do love the elephants, but really, that's just not enough. They need more and better enrichment, more space, a proper environment, and other elephants. They are suffering in inadequate conditions.
Elephants in zoo's are advocates for their species. If people don't have an relationship with an animal, it is very unlikley that they are going to support it. Seeing the majesty of the elephants at Woodland Park Zoo, where they are well cared for, inspired me to volunteer and help all the great species we have on this earth.
Jack Hanna has been a shameless spokesman for the zoo industry for years. He advocated keeping Maggie at the Alaska Zoo and favored the purchase of a treadmill which she, of course, refused to use. Steve Irwin ran a zoo until his death. Ask a bona fide elephant researcher (someone who doesn't have a vested interest in zoos) and most of them will tell you elephants don't belong in zoos.
You're the one who wants to keep fighting and you brought up this silly debate. You need to grow up as I can see your ignorant brain has been fed loads of misinformation. Bye. I know all the critical information, and it's so radical and wrong. It may be what you consider the truth, but its definitely not the REAL truth. I am most definitely done with this silly argument. Gotta go and have a nice life.
You don't know squat about Hansa. You're young. You need to open your mind and be willing to do the critical thinking that brings you to the truth. Right now, all you're doing is glossing over what you don't want to deal with. You don't have a handle at all on the facts. Grow up!
I know all about Hansa, and I don't think it was fair how all these animal-activists ripped them up one side and down the other when they were upset about the death themselves, most definitely more than the so called animal rights activists. You may not think it but I know that elephant keepers form special attachments with the wonderful elephants they care for. I know this for fact as I know several elephant keepers. About the ssp, there was an African birth in SD and anAsian birth expected.
Are you serious?! They didn't just adopt the ssp! At Woodland Park, they've been trying to breed for 17 years! One elephant born, Hansa, who died at age 6 from an elephant herpesvirus. She caught it from Watoto. Multiple artificial inseminations, multiple miscarriages. No babies to show for any of it!
