oh man...this is all good. that "drummer" (idk the name for his role in this type of sound) is really good, he knows every bit of those drums, and the same goes for the rest of the group, the way they can go all thru that sound all the highs and lows, and it fits together so well, its like a river. good stuff.

masterful. sheesh. what is the droning instrument in the middle called? and it too is often bowed, correct?

The instrument in the middle is called a Tanpura (sometimes Tambura). It is never bowed, always plucked and does precisely what you said, provides a drone.
Thanks for viewing!

Thank you very much for this generous contribution. Do you mind kindly telling me who was Shahbaz Hussain Ji's Ustad/teacher?

Hello,
here is an extract from his biodata:
Shahbaz began learning Tabla at the age of 5 under the watchful eye of his father, the late Ustad Mumtaz Hussain - a prominent vocalist. He later went on to study with Tabla legends Ustad Faiyaz Khan from the Delhi Gharana (school), the late Ustad Shaukat Hussain Khan from the Punjab Gharana and finally the late Ustad Allah Rakha Khan.
