there is no defensive or offensive stance. It simply depends whether you have put your efforts into training an attack or defense while in that stance. The cat stance allows quick direction changes with power and the redirection of power. I transition through stances for attack and defense. I only stay in one stance for teaching purposes or when the opponent is so incompetent that movement is not needed.
