  • being a mechanic working on citroens i would never ever buy one of these, the initial cost sucks, part cost sucks and labour costs suck. This is coming from living in Australia

  • It will not be as cheap to keep on the road as a GS/A but it is very rare and unusual; that is why some people want one and think it worth the extra expense.

  • beautiful enterior... I just bought GS yesterday,we'll see how it will be... I'm in love with this car anyway

  • We have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Rotary Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage rot engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the trochoids. Most RO80 vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

  • Must be a nightmare to get parts for them.

  • The GS/A has hydropneumatic suspension and power brakes pressurised by a pump on the engine. This has to be sorted if a different engine is fitted. No alternative motors I know of used in UK. Not worth the effort!

G flat 4 is robust when maintained well; 1222cc GS engine is like a turbine;1015cc lacks torque; 1129cc OK; 1300cc has torque. They can do well over 100k miles with no major problems and will cruise at high speed all day. The GS/A's big problem is stopping it from rusting away.

  • @citnut3 Yea one shouldn't change unless the original rotary is beyond repair. I was refering to swaping in rotary to any GS/GSA.

Is the GS flat 4 any good? Has anyone replaced with a subaru flat4 turbo?

  • I am not an expert on this area but if you research the NSU Ro80 [basically similar to the GS Birotor] you will see that Mazda rotaries have been fitted. With so few Birotors around, I would think that the owners would be trying to preserve authenticity. You would not normally be thinking of putting a different engine in a Birotor to make it a reliable daily driver.

  • @citnut3 THanks for reply, I am delighted to know that a healthy percentage of such a rare car remains today..

Is it possible to swap a mazda rotary to it? I know it might sound silly because most mazda's are rwd, but one FWD rotary Mazda exist, it was the 1st gen LUCE. Could that be even rarer than GS rotary, I dunno.

  • Citroen did attempt to buy back and scrap the 847 [?] Birotors built between 1973 and 1975 because it did not want to support the model and provide spare parts into the future. Some of the cars did not return to Citroen and 200 are thought to survive today - four may be in the UK.

  • i thought citroen bought back all of them and scraped
