This giant otter was filmed in the Paraguayan Pantanal near the Three Giants Lodge and Biological Research Station operated by the Association Guyra Paraguay. I went down there last fall to work on a photography book for Guyra Paraguay and during the process got some film footage. My dream is to make short documentaries with the footage after we get the book published. I was ecstatic to get the giant otter on film returning to its den! Most of the time they are in the water, making it difficult to capture their enormous bodies. To get this shot, a park guard and I sat in a kayak on the opposite bank and waited with the mosquitos until one of the otters returned home. FILM COPYRIGHT EMILY Y. HORTON. www.emilyyhorton.com

I have been collaborating with the non-profit Guyra Paraguay who has a research station and lodge in the Pantanal. Their Website in Spanish but some staff may be able to answer questions in English by e-mail

I only have video and photos of otters in the PY Pantanal from Fall of 2008. I am not aware of otter research being done in the PY Pantanal that I am aware of which is one reason I think I would like to study otter distribution and conservation in Paraguay for graduate school.

Not much is known about giant otter distribution and abundance in Paraguay. Do you have more information about this?
