A "Carbon tax with Rebates" would do that. With rebates the net cost of energy doesn't increase for the average consumer, but it would stimulate conservation and make renewable, clean energies more competitive.
(But some of that tax should probably be used to build a 21st century "Smart power grid." Then we could get energy from Midwest wind farms to the cities, and all put solar panels on our roofs and sell excess power back to the grid. It would also create millions of non-exportable JOBS.)

NRDC is sloppy in it's approach to Action Letters. It turns out they don't send letters but instead posts the letters as "comments" to government agencies who are required to post all comments. Those comments are posted online as pdfs with your name, address, email address and yes your phone number. This is the dirty little secret NRDC fails to tell you. So if you don't want your personal info picked up by web crawlers then don't send action letters for NRDC. If you complain NRDC stonewalls you.

@sweetpotato280 When a person takes action on any website and sends a message to a government agency like US Wildlife Services or EPA, the agency may post it. It’s in every activist website policy, just as it is in NRDC’s. Our online activists have helped save millions of acres of the planet’s last wildlands and stopped polluters from endangering Americans. We trust that this won’t dissuade activists from having the courage of their convictions and taking action to protect the environment.
