(1/10/11) Brian Ross examines what motivates mass shootings by 'Lone Wolves' like Jared Lee Loughner, and it's not "ideology or politics or religion."

New York University forensic psychiatrist Dr. Michael Welner: "...They recognize that they will never amount to everything they dreamed of. And they choose something that the public has given so much attention to and make a decision at some point, 'I can be larger than life.' And make a decision to destroy the society around them."

"If we feel that civility in the public discourse is going to take away mass shooting we're mistaken. Because the one common thread of mass shooting is what does the shooter get out of it? And the shooter recognizes if you assassinate a political figure you will be notorious. I think John Lennon had more to do with this than Sarah Palin."

I guess I could be labeled as something of a "lone wolf" but I certainly would not do something horrible like this. I have good friends, am ambitious, and women seem to like me, but sometimes I just like to have time to enjoy my own company.

I think it's wrong to label all solitary people as a "threat."

The Arizona shooter, Jared Loughner was a left-wing pothead. In order for a true mental illness to be diagnosed one must be clean for two years for brain chemistry to normalize enough for a proper diagnosis. The left is trying to blame it entirely on mental illness now that it has been established that he was a liberal. (see my About Me for link)

This was clearly a politically motivated killer. He didn't shoot a congresswoman because she was famous, he killed her because he had radical and hateful political views and ideas which, combined with his mental health problems caused him to kill giffords. People aren't going after sarah palin because they don't like her, they are going after her because they want to end these killings. This is not the first time that people who have watched too much fox news have killed people.
