The ex-Baltimore & Ohio SW1 (originally an NS1) switcher at the local Cargill elevator has been replaced by a trackmobile, and instead of scrapping the first-generation diesel, donated it to the Union Station Foundation (Utah State Railroad Museum) as an operating locomotive. Unfortunately, vandals stripped the traction motors, but Cargill will still carry out their promise and fix the damage at their cost. The unit was moved to the Ogden Union Station on May 21st 2011 by Union Pacific.

  • Im suprised UP touched that thing! Its got the old friction bearing trucks! thats an FRA no no! Great video!

  • @TrainGuy18 Actually, just like archbar trucks and chilled wheels, friction bearings are banned from interchange service only, unless all railroads involved agree to take responsiblity for movement. In this case, it was only a move of about two miles and over UP tracks only.

  • ah so UP agreed to take responsiblity for the movement? Btw does this unit run? looks a little shabby but intact for the most part!

  • @TrainGuy18 It did run, but vandals stripped the traction motors. Cargill is donating the funds to rewind the motors so it will run again sometime in the future. Cargill is also repainting the engine.

  • Vandals took the motors, or they took the electrical windings? If they took the motors, thats impressive.
