You may recall Colin Powell, with George Tenet standing behind him, trying to get UN approval without success. The invasion was a "coalition of the willing" in violation of UN treaty. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan told the BBC the US-led invasion of Iraq was an illegal act that contravened the UN Charter.

The idea of nations not invading each other is not a new or esoteric idea. It is not a legalistic gimmick. But since you asked:

Chapter 1, Article 2 of the UN Charter: 4. All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations."

Hey all my anonymous admirers: All the wars since at least WW2 have NOT been self defense, they've been aggressions, the US has killed millions of innocent people in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, etc. who never attacked America. The US congress, US presidency, US intelligence agencies, and US military are institutions that are out of control. They are in an illegal status, violating laws and treaties.
