Seeking higher ground in Pakistan. Flood victims wade through water hoping to salvage what they can after being struck by the worst floods in decades that have killed at least 1,600 people and left at least two million homeless.

Pakistani navy boats have been deployed to the Sindh province in an effort to rescue people stranded by a disaster that has angered many over the government's response.

[Elderly Villager]:

"Nothing was safe there. I could only save my children and my hens. Then this boat came across and evacuated us."

Floods have roared down from the north-west to the agriculture heartland of Punjab and on to southern Sindh.

Rough weather is hampering relief work. U.S. aid officials had hoped to deliver aid in Swat Valley but the weather conditions did not permit flying.

[U.S. Military Official]:

"The magnitude of the disaster is very great. The terrain that we are operating in is very formidable, very high mountains, very restrictive valleys. And including, weather challenges have been a problem for the last couple of days."

After $10 million in initial aid, the United States has pledged a major effort to help millions hit by the epic floods in Pakistan.

U.S relief officials said they would make another attempt to fly to the Swat Valley tomorrow.

More heavy rains are expected.

  • Very true picture depicted !

We are a group of volunteers (doctors and other professionals) working for the cause on personal basis. We recently visited Thatta where so many displaced people have moved. We captured videos for people to see what is being done at ground. I tried to share the links here but its not accepting.

You may visit us on Facebook group named "Harawal Dasta" or email us at harawaldasta@gmail.com and we will share the links.

    Thanks.
