This video is actually a song written by Violeta Parra, and sang by Joan Baez during an European Tour she performed in 1980. I consider this one of the most beautiful versions of this song, even better than other versions performed by Joan Baez herself. I dedicate this post to everyone that despite having problems in life, being sad or in trouble, are trying to move on and get better. This song means a lot to me, and everyone should listen to it and pay attention to the lyric, because being thankfull for what you have is the best way to feel good about yourself, and find the strengh is takes to get even better. I specially dedicate this song to a few friends of mine: Polli, Sabrina, Januário, Badan, Eládio, Gabriel (viva Barcelona!), Raimundo, Cristiane and Leo W.. I really love you all, a lot! Thank you for everything.

Eu dedico esta música especialmente a alguns amigos meus: Polli, Sabrina, Januário, Badan, Eládio, Gabriel (viva Barcelona!), Raimundo, Cristiane e Leo. Amo muito todos vocês. Obrigada por tudo. =)

I apoligeze to my latin-american brothers and sisters for not knowing how to speak/write in Spanish.

Me ha dado el sonido y el abecedario;
Madre, amigo, hermano, y luz alumbrando

Graba noche y día, grillos y canarios,
Martillos, turbinas, ladridos, chubascos,

Me ha dado la marcha de mis pies cansados;

  • This makes remember my dear mamy.

  • @truskita32 Same thing to me. My mother introduced me to this song. =D

  • @truskita32 Actually, I took the music from her original CD, converted ir to mp3, made the video and posted it here because I couldn't find this version of this song! This is a tribute to my mother, the one who gave me a life to be thankful for.

  • Thank-you for this wonderful version of the song. I agree with you, it's actually the best one I have ever heard. In which album is it contained?

  • Hey! This version of the song it's in an album recorded live, and it is called European Tour 1980. There are other great songs in this album, like Jari Ya Hammouda.

  • muchos gracias....para ti , Ligia !!

  • Gracias a todos, muitas gracias!

Fatmob79, thanks a lot for your information, I had no idea her father had done such great good to mankind.

    Greetings from Brazil.

  • This is beautiful. What a lovely piece of music. I'm glad people have posted English translations of the lyrics--but in a sense they're not necessary. This song, with Joan's glorious voice leading us, is so uplifting, you don't even need to know what the words mean. Tears come to the eyes anyway. My heart beats faster anyway.

  • Me gustaria verla en vivo ya que a Violeta no la pude ver,Id like to se her ina live concert or just to see her at all because i culdnt see Violeta.este vido dedicoa mi hna Margoth....

  • @50 miguelsan - Thanks so much! I actually found a good translation on the video of the original done by Violeta Parra. I like the composer's version better than this one actually. - But the song is beautiful no matter who is sining it.

  • When I see the good one so distant from bad one , When I see the bottom of your clear eyes. Let´s thanks to life , has given me so much It has given laughing and also tears, So I may distinguish joy from grief Both materials forming my singing And the singing of yours which is the same singing And everybody´s singing that is my own singing. Let´s thanks to life , Let´s thanks to life , Let´s thanks to life , has given me so much
  • @msandisue .......Mother, friend, brother and light, enlightening the route of the soul of my beloved one. Let´s thanks to life , has given me so much It has given me the steps of my tired feet With them I walked cities and puddles, Beaches and deserts, mountains and prairies And the house of yours , your street and your backyard. Let´s thanks to life , has given me so much gave me the heart, that shake its mantle when I see the achievements of the human mind
  • @msandisue Here I send you my own free translation of the spanish lirics:

Let´s thanks to life , has given me so much

gave me two bright stars that, when I open them, I perfectly difference black from white, and the starry background of the far heaven. and inside the crowds, my love one man

Let´s thanks to life , has given me so much

she has given me the sounds and abc book

along with it, the words I think and declare .........
