The Evil Dead series is such a step up from many other horror movies. In a lot of the horror movies, the "victims" did stupid shit to get themselves in trouble. Rather, in the Evil Dead movies, Ash is just in the wrong place at the wrong time (and of course accidentaly using a professor's tape recorder will do that). But the point is that Ash didn't smoke a doobie or piss off something. It really makes you feel for Ash ,and when he becomes badass, well, evil better start running . . .

Exactly! I felt so bad for Ash throughout all of the films. His girl always dies =( and he always goes through bad shit. Poooooor Ash!

I swear that there is an alternate version of this where he used the cleaver that the hand was going to use on him to cut his hand off. It was on HBO like 20 years ago.
