Generations have grown up trained to shop the import brands for a good subcompact car. Sonic is out to make waves in the segment and change that kind of thinking. Tom Voelk takes a look at a turbo LTZ model.

  • Tom, I was checking the price of the Sonic. I found the highest trim Sonic with a 1.4L and auto-tran is about 20K. The Prius C is a little over 19K, and just like the Sonic highest trim it comes with bluetooth standard. The Priuc C has standar autoclimate control, entune. Prius C doesn't look better, but it doesn't look bad either. My question is, what do you think? I really like the Sonic (assy. in USA) but the Prius C sounds so good! How does Toyota manage to make the car so inexpensive?

  • @denisrenelara I don't recomend cars but I encourage research and test drives. There's more going on than price and Bluetooth. The c is optimized for fuel economy, Sonic is much more fun to drive with noticably better handling and acceleration. You really have to test drive them and find out which you prefer. They are quite different once you get past the similar size. Best of luck!

  • You can bag on GM's other forways into small cars. Keep in mind Motor Trend picked the Vega car of the year in 1971. Makes you wonder how bad the other small cars were back then. A friend of mine had a Mazda GLC and when I grabbed the door at the frame around the window, it broke. Nice! A neighbor had a '69 Toyota Corolla wagon that three of us kids could stop from moving. All manufacturers have made crap at one point. ALL. Japanese and Korean cars got better while US got stale.

  • @n2dzd Motor Trend also picked the Chevy Caprice in 1991, the American Motors Alliance in 1983 and the Mustang II in 1974 as COTY. I could go on. I don't make accusations like that lightly. I have friends who owned Monzas, Vegas, Cavaliers and Chevettes. I know their pain.

  • @GoMetricToday You are obviously a radical extremest left-leaning right-wing normal person trying to poison our youth with ideas that are rational and sane. And you call yourself an American?

  • Can't wait to get me a Sonic LTZ in automatic! It's so cute and gas mileage is decent! :-) haven't decided what color yet Orange or white !!

  • seriously ? Who wants to buy a turbo Sonic??? There are so many other better options out there.

  • @DrivenCarReviews Thanks for responding, I will drive both cars but I can tell you that I dont care about performance or if it is fun to drive. I care about MPG and how cheap the car is. I wish I could get a Sonic because is assy. in USA but I guess the Prius C is my best match.

  • @1234fllf oh!
