Before people get all negative again, this is NOT a black widow and it's not dangerous! She's a harmless jumping spider(my brother said it was on steroids when he saw. She's 3 times bigger than the zebra jumpers we usually get).

This is one of two female jumping spiders of this kind I found under broken cement around the backyard. I was trying to get her to jump on my finger like she did earlier but she wasn't cooperating on camera. Tried slipping into my jacket pocket after this was taken. LOL! The spider I haven't shown here yet has an egg sac with her, although this one does look kind of chubby so she might have eggs on the way. Keeping them in seperate jars covered in tights material (so the little hatchlings won't escape but they still have air) and have moist sponge for water and don't drown.

This chubby one had already eaten a smaller jumping spider. One thing I like about them already is they love eating the termites we've been having around here.

6-7-09 Update : Bitsy's first brood are 1st Instars now and moving around. I'm still waiting for my new camera lens to get some shots of the slings. Itsy's eggs have hatched as well. I'm not %100 sure, but Bitsy's 2nd nest might've hatched - looks a little bit darker in there..

Good thing I bought 24 more vials today. I'm gonna be knee-high in new spiders. X-D

  • @chourtnii LOL, it's ok. Unless you're a tiny fly, a jumping spider won't hurt you. :-)

  • @ink4492 LOL! I was watching 2 and a Half Men when I wanted to get a video of her. I have a new wolf spider now as well. I should get footage of her. Biggest I've seen in my area. Glad my brother shows me spiders he finds before squashing or releasing them. :-D

  • do all jumping spiders need moisture?

  • I prefer to give mine access to water, yes. On days they've eaten and it's not too hot they can go without.
