THE MEANING:

A friend of Jessica's asked something like: So what really happened to Lily White? (And I thought he meant to make her like she is...so here's the answer):

I think Lily White started out as one of the most original, yet loving, giving, positive and optimistic people you'd ever want to know -- so, an amazing resource/asset for improvement and understanding for people -- but also surrounded by people of more limited vision and experience, who saw her as simply "not one of us." And so to come though for them, she let herself become someone else...someone with a much smaller circle of comfort...someone who respects and even validates the fears of others. And her dad said something particularly damning on his dying bed, so now there's no one to prove wrong about her -- the person she most wanted to be seen differently and appreciated by is gone, so she wanders, extremely hopeful/giving by nature and extremely defeated by other's perceptions and limits. And she thinks it's crazy -- but familiar and reassuring -- that no one SEES her.

And that's that. : )
