This episode features Richard Taruskin, the 2007-2008 Kritickos Lecturer in the Humanities. Richard Taruskin is a music critic, a performer and conductor of early music, and a prolific scholar who not only writes reviews for the New York Times and the New Repbulic, but is also the author of the six volume Oxford History of Western Music, published in 2005. • Quite interesting: good for Oregon in sponsoring him. Nice to see that a Westerner takes Russian music seriously

  • I just scanned an article in The New York Review of Books by Charles Rosen, and my opinion is that Taruskin should stick to that which he knows best, mopping floors.
