People tend to vote for politicians that promise to give them the most things. People don't really care anymore who else will be forced to pay for these things. Socialism can be very addicting until the mass killing starts.

@selfrealizedexile You need to look at the motive of socialist type people. They think people can't take care of themselves, and they want to help others. They want everyone to be happy and live together peacefully. So to start their OWN socialist community doesn't really solve that motivation. I think those people are totally wrong, of course.. socialism will not bring peace and happiness. But that's just how I perceive their thinking. And yes, I know this post is a year old. Haha

@zbigniewzapora If we had a limited federal government that stuck with defense as needed and foreign deplomacy. The States and Counties could be as socialist or capitalist as they want. As long as no one gets bailed out. Then we can see which system is better.

even if you're not in debt and have a nice amount of savings you're still in big trouble as an American. your savings will be wiped out pretty quickly by inflation, and the bigger the government gets the less job oppurtunities there will be. you probably already know this though...

Yeah, it would only be for the pieces of paper so I can acquire a research position somewhere prestigious. Either way, I'm gonna learn the material. What I'm doing right now is finishing my engineering degree and then just make money for a while to get financially secure and then think about it.
