I use Firefox equipped with AdBlock Plus. It does and excellent job of blocking these ads,or any other for that matter.
...Not that I'm advertising it ;)
Too bad that YouTube has actually comedown to this...

I totally agree. There should be no ads on our channels!
It's really not fair. It's not like we're making money or anything. They are taking advantage of us. The ad on the home page is fine, just not on our channels.

i agree that ads are essential, but is it really necessary to put an ad on every person's youtube channel? It was the one place free of ads to escape its like our home on youtube and there making money off it. Its ridiculous
