Web outrage at Google's new privacy policy
GOOGLE'S new privacy policy has outraged the web community, with one website warning: "Google will know more about you than your partner".

The search giant said the new privacy policy will begin on March 1 and will tracks users' actions across 60+ Google products - including YouTube, Gmail, Search and Google+.

Many technology blogs fear this data can be used to create a more informed (read "easier to market to") user profile.

Google's New Privacy Policy Will Allow Tracking Across Services
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2012/01/25/145830858/googles-new-privacy-...

The big change is that Google will now track you across its services. In other words, Google will now, for example, be able to pair information it collects on its email service with information it collects on its search service to really target its advertising. In a blog post explaining the changes, Google says it will make the experience across its suite of products "more intuitive."

But here's how Danny Sullivan, a search expert, explains it for Marketing Land:

"It sounds like the Miranda warning so familiar to those who watch US cop shows: 'Anything you can and do will be held against you in a court of law.' On March 1, Google has a new privacy policy and terms of service that goes into effect. Anything you do on Google, under these new agreements, can and may be used to target you in a court of Google, so to speak.

In many ways, this is Google growing up into the new portal it has become. Rather than people signing up for individual products, Gmail, YouTube and so on, they're now signing-up for Google — or at least a single set of terms (in most cases) for all the company's products. It's similar to how you sign-up for Facebook, rather than individual products within Facebook."

OBAMA SIGNS Senate Bill 1867 NDAA
Did Congress Declare the 'Homeland' and 'World' to be a "Battlefield," if so, when did Congress Declare War? Obama said, "America is Not, and Never Will Be at War with Islam!"

"The potential for abuse of power through digital networks -- upon which we as citizens now depend for nearly everything, including our politics -- is one of the most insidious threats to democracy in the Internet age ... This is no time for politicians and industry lobbyists in Washington to be devising new Internet censorship mechanisms, adding new opportunities for abuse of corporate and government power over online speech."
- Rebecca MacKinnon (New York Times)

"These bills were written by the content industry without any input from the technology industry. And they are trying to fast track them through congress and into law without any negotiation with the technology industry."
- Fred Wilson (Union Square Ventures)

"SOPA, regrettably, represents a big step backward in Washington's efforts to support the digital revolution, one of the only sectors of the economy that continues to grow."
- Larry Downes (TechFreedom)

"When civil liberties organizations describe the bills as encouraging "American censorship," a weighty charge, the legal analysis by Professor Tribe and I support that conclusion. At least, according to the American Supreme Court's established First Amendment jurisprudence."
- Marvin Ammori (& Laurence Tribe), Leading Constitution Scholars

  • Re: recording conversations - I do know there are devices where they can aim a laser at your window and be able to receive reflections from it that will enable the device to RECORD YOUR CONVERSATIONS from across the street. I'm sure there are lots more ways, like with cell phones, home computers even. I know that Microsoft may have encryption for you but that encryption MAY BE decipherable by government agencies that have a "back door" into the encrypted material. I'm not up to speed yet...

  • Well, Enjoy the free internet as we know it while you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where are all the kids with their paintball guns. Although I do not condone destruction of property, aiming those t these spying cameras would actually put a smile on my face.

  • A good movie to watch related to just this is "We Live In Public".

  • @DigitalSkyline I love the kinnect but I just make sure I unplug it when im not using it. Just in case

  • Ok worse case scenario, economic collapse.Your a white guy, plump from lots of Christmas feasts wandering home with two cherished chickens , one in each hand.Suddenly a barrage of blacks that haven't eaten for a couple weeks.Do you fear?Do you submit to the paradigm shift? No you don't..Simply explain that you helped bring down the evil elite with Youtube uploads, and if anything they owe you dinner! A wonderful opportunity to tie lasting bonds with an ethnic minority.

    Peace..

    Peace..

  • @DigitalSkyline There ya go they have been getting all the people interested in staying on the games at home and Online networks. Most games have interaction capabilities. Who do you think owns these major corporations and helps them make this stuff? The agreements you sign when get online and make your account. The illuminati has the "ALL SEEING EYE" for a reason. Its nothing but crack downs, surveillance and arrest from here on out people and its gonna get MUCH MUCH Worse.

  • Pimp, you mentioned that "you should fear this" I would caution you to flee from this attitude my friend. Fear of these forces of darkness is the problem. Remember, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." -1 John 4:18

  • There are many websites that give access to other-nets which distribute black market software and content, but not the movies directly- cept for say megaupload, they had it all right there, but it was users that uploaded the files, not the guy running the site! Still he is about to get many years behind bars, these corps are outta control man, I agree on that. The xbox kinnect does facial recognition, body scanning, has 4 directional mikes, and can see in the dark! Cool tech but open for abuse.
