  • god is obvious bullshit

  • americans have it easy. I'm from Mali (80% muslims). If i didn't keep quiet about being an atheist when i lived there, I probably would've been disowned, beaten in the street, and have people throw things at me everytime they saw me walk by for 2 or 3 years. Strangely enough, if i said i was a christian, it'd be all right, but the idea of someone not believing in god just doesn't seem to please them very much.

  • @Periph1989 You're right. That was anal of me about the typo. Sorry. Look, I just think we're getting away from my point. Of course there are horrendous things done in the name of theism. Only an idiot would think otherwise. But I just don't see atheists as being this persecuted group, especially not in urban areas like where I live. Maybe in more rural settings, idk. But both fundamentalists and atheists think the average guy on the street cares about them a lot more than is true.

  • @Periph1989 (continued) just because you can't see the problems of religion or theism, doesn't mean they don't exist... also, sorry for the typo. I didn't know you'd be so anal about it.

  • @MckyMseNTarotCrds Okay... i apologize for saying you "don't think about the belief in god/gods critically"... what i MEANT to say is that you don't think about whether or not there are negative effects of not believing in god/gods... Believers and atheists are NOT alike. One side is asserting something, the other side is being told (by people like you) that they should be thought of differently for even questioning it... we're just suppose to take it? (continued)

  • @crystalheart9 Um...maybe they were trying to 'prove' that they live in a free country and can have any goddamn book they want on their desks, as long as they are not forcing you to listen to it. Or maybe they were trying to 'prove' that you should stop worrying about what other people do or don't believe and concentrate on your job. Hmm?

  • @oscarone1982 Thank you.

  • @Periph1989 You have no idea what I have considered critically. I explained quite clearly how the more rabid atheists and believers are alike. Perhaps you should pray to the god of reading comprehension. Oh, and if he answers you, ask him about the difference between effect and affect.

  • @MckyMseNTarotCrds I don't understand why you think atheists are the same as fundamentalists. Atheism is the lack of theism, and most people in the world ARE theists, so atheists ARE the minority. Just because you can't see the affects of theism (or even religions) DIRECTLY, doesn't mean that the affects don't exists. It's subtle (some of the time) but it IS there... Your analogy sucks. You just don't think about the belief in god/gods critically, so you chose to be ignorant about the subject.

  • @MckyMseNTarotCrds Good point!
