Took over all compounds as an outsider.

@jayrich1 Well, different family's had different kinds of ceremonies.
-
@greekboy2k Nor is it mean't to be an accurate reflection of reality. Even real mobsters who are in love with the Godfather movies (which there are many of) will tell you it's mostly romanticized nonsense (which is probably why they like it so much). There's much more to Cosa Nostra than "the ranks and stuff"... probably way more than would completely fit in a game -- although there are some pretty damn good Mafia games out there.
-
@greekboy2k Sixth, no Don -- or anybody else that's a captain or higher -- should be driving themselves around and doing their own dirty work. Even some well-off soldiers would have associates to drive them around or contract killings out to. To paraphrase Willie Cicci in Godfather II, there should be "buffers" between a person and his crimes after a certain point.
Given time, I could think of more, but it's no big deal. It's really an awesome game, just not a reflection of reality.

@greekboy2k Fourth, if you explore the city in the game, you'll notice every family has a disproportionately high number of underbosses and captains. Any given family has no more than one underboss -- if any -- and the captains are few and have their own crews. When I go to a Barzini place and there are 4 underbosses strolling around in front of it, accuracy has clearly been foregone. Fifth, everybody dealt drugs, period. The only reason bosses claimed otherwase was to fool the public.

@greekboy2k Settle down spaz.
First of all, jayrich1 is exactly right. The induction ceremony is ridiculous. It's right in the middle of a social club instead of a basement, there's no pricking or burning card, and there are even civilians inside the bar at the time. Second, half-Italians can join if they are caucasian, Italian on their father's side, and have an Italian surname. Third, there are no crews anywhere in the franchise. The captains act like the boss's assistants, which they aren't.
-
@greekboy2k Yes, "relly". I'm not saying it's a bad game, but comparing it to the real Mafia is rather pointless.
It's a game... based on a Hollywood movie... based on a novel... based VAGUELY on the information from the Valachi Hearings. Like a game of telephone, details get distorted and romanticized over time.
-
@jayrich1 It's the "The Godfather" universe, not reality. There's so many other differences with the real Mafia that I couldn't possibly cover them in 500 characters.
-
if only there was a game that had mafia 2,godfather 1 and a lil of the 2 that would made a perfect mafia game
one of my proudest day was when my character got his button. i'm getting misty-eyed just thinking about it.
