Aquaponics happens to be a fully natural process mimicking all the rivers, ponds, lakes and other waterways and requiring just one input -- the fish food. The fish in the aquaponics system consumes the food and excretes the waste. The waste is acted upon by beneficial bacteria and gets converted into a form that can be used by the plants. The plants play an ecology sustaining role of purifying the water by consuming the nutrients. Pesticides, herbicides or any other sorts of harsh chemicals cannot be used in the aquaponic system and this makes the fish and plants in such a system safe to be eaten.
hi..its a very nice set up..just want to know if the tiger shrimp really cleanses the roots in the raft?i think i will adapt this bacause the filter that i am using is not good enough to totally removes the solids in the system

This system seems closer in concept to permicultue with aquaculture as a key component.
I love it!

Is there a website where I could get more detailed and technical info on this? This is so feasible here in the tropics.

Great setup.
Consider using Black Soldier Fly Maggots as fish food, they will practically harvest themselves.

@greensocietytv What is the projected cost and time for construction? Where are you planning to build this and will you help others build the same set up?
I really do like the idea. I could really see a community building something like this but I don't know any individuals that would be in a position to do so.

Very informative video- Thank you! I'm a Pioneer with an open source sustainable community project called OneCommunityRanch (a .org). We are getting close to setting up an Aquaponics system and are looking for members experienced in this type of growing. We will be growing all our own organic food, build eco homes and share all plans freely with the world to show a new way of living. Please visit our site. I am gathering info for our project. Thank you for this video!

What do you do with human waste ?
Read the " Humanure Handbook ", it tells how to compost human waste.

Fish in tanks..? They should be out swimming where they belong, in the sea.
