Sandalwood Oil story

Wow, so Lush recognise the issues surrounding sandalwood? Why aren't they doing anything about it then? It's not necessary to use sandalwood in their products, I'm yet to come across any properties unique to sandalwood that can't be obtained from other oils...even using trees from "controlled zones" won't help because they are still destroying the area and it will take another 20+ years before the saplings planted will be use-able, by which time will there be any sandalwood left?

I was thinking the exact same thing. Its kind of sad when you think about it. No wonder the trees are endangered.
I think that it's really good, that they chose not to get their oil from dodgy sources. It's not worth it really to be supporting these kinds of characters. It smells nice but obviously that's not worth human suffering, like the t shirt trade. Alot of companies won't even know about this issue, and it's great that Lush is looking into at least some of them. I am worried now about the guy who keeps going over to check, hope he's safe too lol

Wow - I never knew that the production of Sandalwood was such a massive environmental issue. Hats off to Lush for attempting to source their supply of it in a sustainable way but at the same time, I was horrified to learn that the trees used in it's production are 40 years old - is it really worth it just to provide us with "...a lovely oil that we can use in lovely cosmetics" ?
