Discrete mathematics, or finite mathematics, involves breaking up sets of elements into separate or discontinuous parts. Perform discrete mathematics in the optimum short amount of time with lessons from a math teacher in this free video on math calculations for daily life.

Expert: Jimmy Chang
Bio: Jimmy Chang has been a math teacher at St. Pete College for nearly a decade. He has a master's degree in math, and his specialties include calculus, algebra, liberal arts, math and trigonometry.

  • the display of the hands and watch moving around in the background is very distracting.

  • yeah what's with the hand.

  • So basically solving really hard math problems in the shortest possible way, in which, some of the problems could have solutions. Yea, sounds like good ole math to me.

  • @TheWarTorn its discrete hand motion

  • That didn't help me at all. LOL

  • @dirtybirdeeee4 At least it may suggest that mathematicians love to think by making movements mostly with the hands.

  • It is not true that discrete mathematics deals only with finite sets (that's the case with finite mathematics which can be considered as a part of dm), discrete can also refer to infinite sets, as long as they are countable (like the integers). So in my opinion, the definition would be more correct if you use mathematics dealing with countable sets of numbers / integers.

  • This course is ridiculous. I honestly cannot even stand to sit through the class. Last semester EVERY PERSON failed and they had to grade on a curve, or so I've been told. I'm not stressing over it, life will go on with or without this pointless diversion. Discrete----->(POINTLESS^USELESS)=T

  • @Breathlessdratini I agree! I got through Calculus I-III in flying colors, but I'm on my third attempt to try and pass Discrete Math.

  • I know what discrete math is, now show me how some discrete math material instead of just talking about what it is.

  • Toughest math subject in college...
