The only thing that makes '80s emo muzak even cheesier is listening to it waver on 20 year old tape!

I think this was in about Sept-Oct of 1985.
I was stationed in the USCG in Portland, Maine and we were on alert.

He mentioned that a brownout fucked up his VCR, so he had to get his camera out.

Sir, where'd you get this footage? Did you video tape this? Hurricane Gloria... what a blast from the past. I was in tenth grade in Pennsylvania and Iremember the day it made landfall.

Interesting stuff displayed from the WeatherSTAR 3000 at 5:40. I never knew the 3000 displayed hurricane and tropical storm status.

Amen. I'm a geek who watched TWC A LOT as a kid, and John Hope was one of my heroes. I wrote to him and he was kind enough to write back! Wish I had saved his letter...
Loving this slice of old-school TWC, especially the quintessentially '80s synthesizer Muzak. Anyone know who performed that piece at a little after 4:30? Sounds like Mannheim Steamroller to me.

I remember those days! When they used to spend a few minutes each day to reading letters from viewers. At one point I drew a weather map and sent it to them. Although I did not see it I was told they did show it on the air!

Me too! I miss the old Weather Channel! I grew up in the early to mid '80s with the Weather Channel...it got me interested in meteorology. One summer, I wrote them a letter about my interests in meteorology, and the mentioned it on one of their promo commercials. They played that commercial over and over again for a period of time. I was so excited! :-)
R.I.P. John Hope
