His storytelling is at it's best on his records (LP's), done before he became well known to an English audience. I'm from Glasgow, and understood them very well, they do have the sound of truth. And some of them are violent and bleak. But hilarious. That's his job. As it happens, round about then I drove buses in Glasgow. The type with conductors, rear platform, pole in the middle. This story sounds spot-on, with only the very end exagerated.
