It Matters

This is a student production that deals with the recently proposed budget cuts not only in the Iowa City Community School District, but also highlights the statewide impact of freezing the education budget. The students and faculty interviewed express their concerns of what these cuts mean to them and the ICCSD district.

A special thanks to everyone involved in this video. This special project was started and completed within 36 hours, which shows just how important these cuts are to not only the students, but also every teacher within the district. Lets spread the word!

Yule and Draco sent me. As a Canadian citizen this doesn't hit me personally, but knowing that cuts to arts, music, foreign languages, etc. can and will happen saddens me very much. 'Business' isn't always the way to go. Think about the future; 'education', 'possibilities', 'quality' and 'equality' are the ideas that need to come first with 'business' coming after. No one should be disallowed the opportunity to find their trade, be it art; music; sports; etc.

I know I will be deeply disappointed if these cuts are made because our school district is very involved with the arts and music.

the Inception music just made my heart pound, and all of this made me want to bawl. Good Luck this evening--we've all worked so hard, and these teachers, these fabulous educators, these lovely people who spend their weekends grading our papers... they deserve this. Iowa CIty West always seemed like a legendary place to me, growing up as an only child--and when I finally got there, it lived up to EACH AND EVERY ONE OF MY EXPECTATIONS.

I am a junior at West High school, and this matters to me. I have been involved in all music programs since 7th grade, and if these cuts are made, there will be a huge impact on the program. These cuts are not just hurting the teachers, but our education.
