I thank The Lord everyday, for I could have been on that train 7 years ago, but he showed me he has a plan for me. Every time I hear this awesome song I think about it and tear up. There truly is victory in The Lord.

Its a spiritual metaphor used to illustrate the choices we make in life. Bad choices, sin, will lead to unhappiness; disappearing. Good choices will lead to happiness and safety. He uses the idea of a 'long black train' to show the disparity of sin, which is like death, and doing/choosing good, which is like life to make a message about making good choices and being happy.
