My most boring video yet...

Testing the properties of napalm.

Gasoline
Sodium Stearate
Magnesium powder
Sodium Nitrate

Most napalm you see on YouTube is just gasoline and polystyrene, I found that this makes it clump together in a thick putty. Jelly texture is more desirable and stickier as you can see. The sodium ions and magnesium burn vigorously with a white hot flame. It continued to burn for 4-5 minutes but I'm not going to show it here. I also included Sodium nitrate to oxidize the magnesium.

To make clear for all those people who try to correct me like I don't know what I'm doing (always get a lot of those people commenting on my videos) :

The first napalm used by the US military was composed of low octane gasoline and a metal salt of fatty acids. (such as sodium/aluminum napthenate or palmitate.

Then Napalm-B came about which is gasoline, benzene, and polystyrene.

Currently they use triethylaluminum and polyisobutylene which is pyrophoric.

There are also a few current aerial bombs that use other additives to petroleum fuels such as oxidizers, white phosphorus, aluminum powder, and Hydroxyl aluminium bis(2-ethylhexanoate).

___

Basically I made old school napalm with a reactive metal powder and an oxidizer added. It is very effective. It burns hotter than Napalm-B, but not as long. If only I could get triethylaluminum...

(And before someone asks: Sodium stearate Is very similar to sodium palmitate so it makes a fine substitute.)

  • @olliephelan Nope, they used a variety of thickeners, napthenates & other long chain acid & salts are just one of the many things that could be used as a thickener.

  • @kf4ypd exactly right, one of the few people who know what you're talking about.

  • @RedTigerAirsoft1 right, says the 14 year-old who plays with plastic guns. Why are people so fucking dumb. There's a great compilation of info on incindiaries included in the description. Read the fucking thing.

  • @dermonkey You're exactly right.
