I test the power of 6 different compositions.
All samples were 20 milligrams.
1. Magnesium / sodium nitrate (55/45)
2. Sodium nitrate / magnesium / ferrocerium (50/25/25)
3. Sodium nitrate / ferrocerium
4. HE FP (High Explosive Flash Powder)
5. Normal armstrong's mixture
6. Armstrong's mixture + ferrocerium

Mg / NaNO3 flash powder is stable and is really powerful.
NaNO3 / Mg / ferrocerium is very fast and powerful, but more sensitive.
NaNO3 / ferrocerium is even faster than NaNO3 / Mg / ferrocerium.
HE FP is a high explosive. In this test it was almost equal to NaNO3 / ferrocerium but if it had detonated it would have been a different story.
Armstrong's mixture is powerful and extremely sensitive.
Armstrong's mixture + ferrocerium is by far the most powerful composition I have made. A few milligrams unconfined is enough to detonate.

  • I bet there is a genius loading 1g of AM+ferrocerium somewhere as I'm typing this.

These are so remarkably violent. I'd say mercury fulminate of the old days is safer than some of these. That's not exaggerating!

AP being safer? Meh, AP disappears really quickly, can't be stored, and constantly causes accidents, so it doesn't matter how much "safer" it is. It's still a shitty white powder that can't be trusted.

AP is maybe not safer, but probably less sensitive to impact and friction than AM. It sublimes and looses more than half of its weight in 14 days...

  • how do you make your armstrong mix what method and do you make it with a match box or pure chems

  • So were all of these compositions prepared using the special method that you told me about?

This video is impressive; it should have more hits.

  • Ok so i want to know what armstrongs mixture is made of and the proportions its mixed, also how much ferrocium to use. If you would be so kind to share. What are the do's and dont's when making this mixture. Thank you

  • Nice

  • @Stray03

    OK thank you =)

My det cord is something between a shock tube an a det cord. It's flat and the explosive is on the walls. But it's definitely not something I want to hold in my hand when it detonates...

  • @Dornier335A Shocktube is a tube that has a light powdering of HE like PETN or RDX on its walls. when you set it off it causes a shockwave to travel down the tube, but keeps the tube intact. The detcord is full of explosive and acts as one when detonated. you can hold shocktube while the detonation wave travels down it, you don't want to hold det cord. If it doesn't kill you, you'll wish it did.

  • @dawson01913

No, I haven't even planned to make ETN. What's the difference between a shocktube and det cord? Is it the amount of explosive?

  • @Dornier335A

Have you gotten to making ETN yet? I can see you applying some of these nasty HE compositions to shocktubes in a relatively safe manner. Don't confuse a shocktube with det-cord, though. XD
