Last year Dan Spitz contacted me in a last desperate attempt to find someone who could make an accurate PAF reproduction set of pickups for his Gibson Historic 335, to take on tour and record with. He wasn't having any luck finding such a thing. After I made him my regular Vintage Lab 2 repro set, he wrote an email that I quoted in the video. Dan is one of those famous guys who is also just a really decent humble human being, besides being an awesome guitar player.
Later he sent an email detailing how he did the demo and what gear he used:
"The amplifier was my Matchless Independence, I used channel 2 for the Cream Clapton tone.
Marshall Vintage Basketweave 4x12 with 20 watt heritage G12M's
Gibson ES 335 Historic '63 Nashville /
Real old Bumble Bee capacitors
Dunlop Jazz 3 XL picks
Everly B-52 10-46 strings
TAB Funkenwork modified 57 microphone
My fingers straight into Ableton Live "
There is going to be some very exciting news about Dan and a new band and CD coming next month, so if you are a Spitz fan, keep your ears open!
Thanks,
Dave Stephens
