A look back at the 10 yrs of LHOTP.
I get lots of questions as to why the LHOTP set was destroyed. The answer: Michael Landon Did Not want the set to be used by ANYONE else after the series end. He wanted the fans to remember the set for what it was. A LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRE set. Nothing else.

  • Blowing up the set was a really dumb move. What a tourist attraction it would be now. Hell, I hate tourist traps, but I'd buy some candy from the Olsens Mercantile :)

  • Wish we had more shows like this today. Sadly, programs like this one may be considered too goody-goody for many of today's audiences -- adults who think that any drama that doesn't contain sex and excessive violence is boring, and kids who are so used to shows with catchy music, flashy costumes and special effects, that shows like LHOP may be too simple and too outdated for them. A real shame.

  • @utahtoad No doubt. That and killing off Albert was lame and inconsistent. Otherwise the show and cast were amazing.

  • OMG! Matthew is so handsome!

  • @utahtoad I think it would be really cool to be able to go there and see the set, but I also think there are enough tourist attractions where the real Laura Ingalls Wilder lived and grew up. If you were to google DeSmet, SD the first page is all tourist attractions for Laura Ingalls Wilder. In DeSmet there is the Ingalls' Homestead, Almanzo Wilder's Homestead, grave sites to most of Laura's family, the Loftus store, the Ingalls house in town, the LIW Pagent, and many other places too.

  • Possibly the finest family show ever made for television. I still watch this show with my family and have all the episodes on DVD. The core of that show was made up of some fine actors and Michael Landon was simply a genius... he could make you laugh and not 30 seconds later make you cry... this kind of television is sorely missed in our society today...

  • It's a shame they didn't keep the sets and make a theme park out of it, I bet it would have attracted a lot of people to visit.

  • They must've owned the land and building in real life right? So people can't film on it or buy it without asking! UGH this was a terrible ending to an amazing series i'm only 13, i haven't even finished the seasons but i saw this and was angry!

  • My second cousin Sarah Miller played young Charles mother when Mathew was first on Little House. She has passed but I was so proud she was in a quality t.v. show.

  • the blizzard scenes were filmed in northern cal in the mts.

  • I'm glad they blew up the sets, that way no one else could use them. If you saw some movie with that set, there would be too many things to remind you of the the good ol' little house.

  • Why Did They have to Blow up The Little House On The Prairie Set?? They should make the town again like it was & make it into a museum Like Fort Edmonton is!! Where I grow up!! I would visit The Little House On The Prairie Museum If They made it again! If U Agree Push They Like Button!!
