John Denver live in Cork City (1986) - Back Home Again (with John's intro)

John Denver performs live for around 40,000 young people at the annual 'Siamsa Cois Laoi' open air concert in Cork City, Ireland, in 1986. In this clip John introduces himself and sings 'Back Home Again'. John's pronunciation of the concert's Irish language name 'Siamsa Cois Laoi' is quite good.

The video comes from my own personal VHS copy of the RTE broadcast ,made many years ago. A kind lady in the United States helped in getting it transferred to DVD

He certainly loved to perform. It shows in his introduction, his wonderful generous attitude to all his fans.  He was a great man, and wrote some beautiful songs. I don't think that anyone now days writes such down to earth lyrics that everyone can relate to like John Denver did.

He was one of the best.

In his intro JD talks about a night in Dublin when he performed in a bitterly cold venue. This story must have meant a lot to him because he repeated it in his autobiography ' Take Me Home'. It proves JD was speaking straight from his heart to the young fans in Cork. That is why his fans were so loyal to him.

I have always felt that this was one of JD's greatest concerts - especially so since the audience would not have been typical JD fans, though there are many young people singing with him word for word. It can be seen that John enjoyed every minute of it.

Siamsa Cois Laoi (John said it perfectly) was a day-long music festival with several acts on show. John was the headliner on the day.

I was at this gig as a young punk kid!They were the days when there was a healthy music event most summers in Cork than there is now!!

JD was a great artist....live forever!

You are absolutely right. I sang Good To Be Back Home Again to my two little girls for years. Now I sing it to my Grand Daughter. Its the most tragic death in country music in years.

It's so hard to accept that he is no longer with us, even after 12 years. He was one of the brightest stars in the sky. He is so missed.
