This is my "pimped out" Acer Aspire One (AOD150) 10.1 inch netbook (Intel Atom 1.6ghz, 1gb ram, 160gb hdd, 1024x600 screen resolution) running DeskSpace (a program which allows the user to have and manage up to 6 virtual desktops on their pc, with the ability to have different wallpapers and/or icons on every desktop.)

Most regretfully this software is no longer free, although it used to be (it was called YodM 3D then)

Software of this kind is incredibly useful, especially on computers with small screen resolution (like Aspire One and other netbooks.) It doesn't just look sexy, it actually has a function ;) To use a crude analogy, it is like a hot woman who is also intelligent (and knows how to cook too;) )

I am running "Windows XP Home edition with SP3" on this machine but, as you can see, I made it look like Vista using "WindowBlinds" (shareware) and "Google Desktop" (freeware.)
I am running vista on my HP laptop and, in my opinion, it's a big waste of time except for the sleek and transparent theme, which they (Microsoft) again borrowed from other OSs. Ironically Linux already has this feature included for the price of ZERO dollars but in Windows, in addition to paying a good $150-$300 for their OS, you also have to pay for an additional program to get all the features of Linux OS. Same is true for multiple desktop utility.

I used "CamStudio" screen recording software (freeware) to capture video AND sound for this video.

  • it still isnt as cool as my dexktop but still wicked cool

  • @tmakidd0703 that's because I didn't realize we had competition ;D

  • Wow, it's like compiz for linux 4 years ago, but it's waaay slower and the window's are still lacking all of the animations that the mac / linux os's have.

  • it's actually quite fast. it looks slow and laggy because i was running the screen recorder at high settings simultaneously. besides this is aspire one with only 1.6 ghz and 1gb ram.

as for the animations, yes they're virtually inexistent with this program, what do you expect, the original beryl on linux is the "king" still, and will be for a long time.

  • It sure is Linux around here...

  • nope, this is xp home edition. linux also has this feature, but it is much better constructed and more visually stunning than this "imitator"

  • ....all this desktop crap

  • @g0rsk13g4n9st4 well now you know

  • does you know how to get different themes in every desktop?

  • SKUNKBALLScom

at least you can use windows for other things than just playing with compiz.

  • I've just given up on trying to make my windows 7 look good... I've enabled dreamscene hack , which looks pretty good, but it's soo crappy compared to my old linux installation.

If my videocard had non-overheating drivers I would definitely go back.
