Well. No one alive pepole know the true story of Quasimodo. The book is one version and this is another. The real Quasimodo(?) (Sorry, tired) lived in the 1820th, and Victor Hugo wrote about him like Quasimodo lived in the 1480th. Victor Hugo had a lot of contact with the church and then knew Quasimodo. He wrote this story with he's thougths with Quasimodo as inspiration. It's almost like Robin Hood - no one knows the trues, and it's different versions of the story. I like this and the 1923 ver

You're right, Esmeralda was white. But unless your talking about Irish travellers, European gypsies are not white. There are some with very diluted blood and are fair with blonde hair, but people of the ethnic group are typically darker as they're not actually indigenous to Europe. (therefore not 'white')

An excellent human interest story that has universal appeal.

@karkkiliininam well you might as well bash the old frankenstein movie if you are going to get mad at bad story re writes

@Azraelean I'm totally with you on this one. It's just bullshit what disney does to great stories.

Hardwicke is very fantastic. Hereflects his charisma from the beginning to the end. He is one of my favorite Frollo's.

@aquaholic1004 Esmeralda was WHITE! In Victor Hugo's novel, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, she was a little French girl who was kidnapped by gypsies due to her remarkable beauty. In her place, the gypsies left Quasimodo. Esmeralda's mother went a bit mad and left him on the church's doorstep to be raised by the church. The irony is that Quasimodo and Esmeralda cross paths later, each unaware that one had been swapped for the other. By the way, European gypsies are white!

Yes he does a bit! Very handsome man, a real heartthrob! I think he makes an awesome Phoebus, truely handsome and shining as the sun, unlike that ugly guy with a wig in 1956 adaptation.

Yet another story fucked up by Disney. Quasimodo must die. It is a crime for disney to change stories to be PG friendly. Who's with me on this. Plot is ruined by Disney where Hamlet is survivable for all but Claudius.
I find it slightly ironic that they've labeled the movie as an immortal classic. One of Hugo's most prominent themes was that only in death could a character become the divine, beautiful incarnation of themselves.

Thank you ^^ I'm glad you enjoy both... too few people can't find it in them.
I LOVED the book... made me cry. <X( lol
I LOVED the cartoon... nice and dark. XD
I LOVED this movie... wonderfully acted.
It was close to the book, but I don't bash it to death if they leave out things; it's not like books made into movies stay 100% true all the time, right?
I was actually surprised at... how much THIS Quasi resembles DISNEY Quasi... XD it's almost scary! lol anyway... this movie is great! ^^
