I cant believe you voted these bastards in Britain! More corruption...more economic shafting and this guy gloated about it just to rub it in on tele on a programme thats meant to be funny. His gloating about claiming his 2nd home under the taxpayer when he shouldnt have been is a fucking joke that shouldnt be laughed at! Alan Duncan = Cunt!
Absolutely incredible that this guy is in the shadow cabinet having seen him on Have I Got News For You the other night. Jesus christ, I know things are bad under labour but this shower of shite is the alternative, it's just incredible.
Time to update this page. Libertarianism seems to be on hold, for now at least. Everyone's going for Keynesian solutions to what is admittedly a massive problem. I'd argue that the current problems are more caused by intervention than solved by the same, but what would i know, i'm a clueless old libertarian.
I've got a few theories that may relate to these matters, and as always they're Friedmanite. But can those approaches hold sway when everyone else is interventionist?
isn't it nice to be able to reply to a post with 4 months worth of hindsight? I'd have said 4 months ago that Brown had been engaged in destructive meddling, but now it's pretty much proven fact.
One thing that unsettles me slightly, is Cameron's slur on Libertarianism in his closing conference speech. I'll still vote Tory next time, and probably every time. But it's not a pleasant feeling knowing that the leader of the party you support doesn't really understand where you're coming from.
The good thing is, we're winning now, and by a hell of a margin. Even in Scotland where a Tory vote just isn't an option for a lot of people, they're going SNP rather than back the Reds.
Maybe Scots nationalism isn't such a bad idea - after all, it'd remove half the constituencies where people might go Red from the union.
It'd be a bad thing for democracy to have an impotent second party for more than a term or two though, and that could happen.
And until recently we were losing the war of words to the new socialists - it's easy to call socialism "progressive" and libertarianism "reactionary" until one understands either term - I've been suffering with such motifs in debates for years (the answer btw is to ask which side in WW2 was progressive and which was reactionary).
Its strange how Liberalism has changed to a Social Democratic movement in europe really.
European liberalism has moved very far from classic liberalism of the early 20th century.
Libertarianism is the solution to so many global economic problems, unfortunatly I fear Europe will be very reluctant to accept it. Europeans seem to now think that this new found Liberal/Socialism we have is somehow developed, sophisticated, intelligent and different to what we call socialism...
I think a move towards libertarianism would be massively better for eveyone than a move towards what people now call liberalism, which is mostly nothing of the sort.
This interviewer seems to be trying to draw an intolerant or inappropriate answer out of AD, who clearly doesn't have an intolerant bone in his body.
Also good to have got rid of Red Ken, as Alan alluded to

Does anyone else feel Deja Vu for 1978?
