This flight really means something special to me, since it was my very first DC-9 flight. For me as a German, it is not very easy to get on a DC-9 and I was always desperate to fly on one.
During the time I lived in the US I checked out nwa.com for some DC-9 flights and I found a round trip DFW-MEM-ORD-DTW-MEM-DFW for a very reasonable fare. Of course I did not hesitate, went ahead and booked. On an unusually sunny October day in 2007 I had the very best experiences in my career as an aviation fan-3 rides on a DC-9 in a row.

I especially enjoyed the ride on the 1968 built rare -40 series (N751NW (cn 47115/261) ) that you can see in this video.
There were only about 30 passengers on this short flight from Memphis to Chicago-ORD and I was one of the very few of them sitting in the rear part of the plane.
The engine sound and power of this old lady really impressed me, it was an awesome flight done by a very professional crew. Thank you so much NWA for making this day possible and long live the DC-9!

Sit back, relax and enjoy the second part of this wonderful flight!

Sorry for the spelling error in the titles at the beginning, I somehow messed up to spell "MC Donnell Douglas".

  • Love the sound of those JT8D engines.

  • I still think its sad how delta is getting rid of the dc9-30's and 40's but atleast their keeping the dc9-50's

  • Heard this flight attendant on your vid of takeoff from memphis - was he as cute as his accent?

  • @bamaslamma1003

    Heck ya!

  • Thats amazing... I took a look at the picture October 7, 2007 LOL... I love stuff like that... Great video man of a lovely plane!.

  • This is a textbook landing, the way throttle goes to idle, together with the picture of the runway out the window, as the pilot flares. Perfect 10 !

  • OY-KGA and SE-DBX was the first DC-9-41 delivered to SAS. They where called "prototypes", and had some features not equipped on the rest of the -41 fleet, amongst other - separate ground spoiler panels (that was disabled, and not used). Fantastic to see it is still in use. Credit to the airplane and the care it has received during all these years!

  • really smooth landing 5/5

  • Definitely an oldy, but GOODIE!!! This video REALLY brings back memories flying on an NWA DC-9. NWA used this A/C significantly out of Houston Hobby Airport, but later replaced it w/ the CRJs and A320s out of Bush Intercontinental or IAH. ironically, I also flew many times on this leg from Memphis to ORD. Nice video!!!
