  • dude, that is totally funny! i would go see this -- where is it playnig?

  • Glad you like it. As far as I know, it's kicking around NY... not sure about a full production. I saw the workshop at Mark Morris's space in Brooklyn because I know the filmmaker and am a MAJOR fan of the play and of Morris. It was different from the play or movie, but amazingly good on its own terms.

  • In Stoppard's original, the Questions Game is played like a tennis match. Here it's a game show. Check out the retro latin music for the lightning round... sounds like a conga line or something.

  • There is extraordinary skill in avoiding the purpose of the source text and the medium (seriously, 'opera'?) in one fell swoop. That said, there are no other skills on display at all.

  • Which one is Phares?

  • is he the dark haired-one or the red-head?

  • Hilarious! I saw this at the Rubin Museum in NY last week. The composer introduced the film version of "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" and they showed this first. I googled the composer, Herschel Garfein, and found the opera's website: rosandguilDOTcom (or google "Rosencrantz opera"), which has another great video clip, and several audio recordings.

  • Keith Phares is an amazing singer. I was in an opera with him once.

  • I saw this workshopped at City Opera's VOX program a couple of years ago and it was a huge hit. Hopefully some smart opera administrator will produce it soon...with Keith Phares, he's amazing.
