1. A brief comeback on Alyson Williams and her song 'Sleeptalk'. While making AOS 29, I got hooked on the beginning of 'Sleeptalk'. The very beginning sounded very familiar. I couldn't remember which track used this vocal sample. Until I went to a restaurant last friday. A track was playing on the radio, and the sample came, clear and very audible to my ears.
Ahh, that Chocolate track. Such a big hit of the 1990's. We use to dance on it in High School, around 1991-92. Never thought it could contain a sample, apart from the James Brown beat (in the 'rap' sections).
2. A brief return on The Peech Boys, which had another acapella sampled many times: 'Don't Make Me Wait'. Jestofunk made a jazzy/funky music track to go with it, and they shot a very cool video for it in the streets of Montreal. You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWeSk3hcLSc
The dancers are seen on Ste-Catherine street, in the old port, Place Mont-Royal, Ile Notre-Dame, and Les Foufounes Électriques.
'I'm Gonna Love You' is a classic and a cool track to get ready to go out.
The next example is from The Latino Brothers: Vito Lucente (Junior Jack) and Terry Logist. There is another unknown acapella in the track.
3. Then we come to DJ Hell and his cover of 'Copacabana' by Barry Manilow. Manilow is especially known in the world of sampling to have figured on the Daft Punk album 'Discovery' ('Superheroes'). 'Copa' is a modern day version of the tragic love story between 'Lola' and 'Rico', set in a club called 'Copa'. Barry Manilow is in the House!
The strange electronic sound you can hear at the beginning is very similar to the transmissions made by the French resistance on the BBC radio during World War II. It's definitely not a sample, but it's very similar. I have no idea if this was intentionnal or not.
The last part of AOS32 is the same 'Copa' from DJ Hell but remixed by Phats & Small. They used different other samples for their version. Not their best remix, but a standard variation.
I'm thinking about a new serie which will basically consists of tracks, with or without samples, that I will upload for the listening pleasure of anybody who is into funky House music.
I am also working on a FAQ of AOS on my MySpace page.
I think I just topped 100 mixes made for the serie up to now. Hundreds of artists and acts have been presented. Your messages and support still helped this thing to grow, and it's my pleasure to deliver my musical knowledge and share it with others, who are also giving me a part of their knowledge too.
See you soon on AOS 33. :)
