Is drilling for Natural Gas safe for Pennsylvania?

Anti degradation requires the state to protect those high quality and exceptional value streams for the [flora and fauna] that live there too, Faith Zerbe of Delaware Riverkeeper testified during the Marcellus Shale Hearings in Pennsylvania on December 18th, 2009. She
went on to say that fish cannot reproduce in waters that meet the current standards of 350 parts per million of Total Dissolved Solids.

Over one hundred citizens attended and many testified on behalf of Pennsylvanias water on December 18th 2009 at the Lehigh County Government Center on behalf of the Department of Environmental Protections request for permits to continue drilling through the Marcellus Shale for Natural Gas. The hearing focused on a multitude
of perspectives about clean water standards in Pennsylvania. Jane Benning states do not dilute the standards of our drinking water.

The potential dangers when drilling for natural gas includes the toxic discharges that seep into drinking water because powerful chemicals are used to break through the shale to get to the natural gas supply.
During the hearing it was discussed that Pennsylvania does not collect a tax on drilling for gas and in the case of the Marcellus Shale and not many jobs, if any will be created for Pennsylvania residents.

  • oh man my back hurts today, my nose is runny, it must be from all the natural gas drilling in my area! has to be because its going on now and they make more money than me, so it must be their fault! I can't believe these "gas drillers" want to provide us with heat and energy independence, damn these people for wanting to help the usa from buying oil over seas and giving money to the hands of our enemies, yep drill there but not here....morons all of you

  • LETS SHUT THEM DOWN FOR OUR WATER, FOR OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN!

We can make alcohol when we run out of gas because gas is not going to last forever but our water has to.

  • If this drilling is done harm will come if it is done very carefully harm will still be done. But I can assure you the contractors and workers will have little or no concern over the process. And the even more insidious thing is no state or government official will follow up at any level that would over see these operations. Promises will be made by politicians but they are disingenuous and false. Great environmental harm directly to people ,property, ecosystems, and land is absolutely certain.

  • good work! keep up the fight!1

  • Screw this shit, man. We need to focus on more serious issues, like Obama being reptillian.

  • Let's get this job done!!!! Thank you for making video clear and concise with the added notes. I knew of this water study from back in 1999 when they were testing the Schuylkill in our home town in Orwigsburg. The head of the team actually told me it would be better to drink your pool water!!!! Giardiasis was running rapid at the time and more fluoride was being added to our water supply.

  • is there such a thing as a consumer device which acts passively by extracting water vapor from the air and filtering it through osmosis delivers enough potable water for an family of four?
