This is one of Sabbath's more surprising tracks. Usually, heavy metal bands employing horns is a bad idea, but here, it's a metal band playing a straight-ahead street jazz piece that sounds more like something you'd find on the soundtrack of a 1970s cop action film. Whenever I hear this I picture things like the 1970s TV series Kojak or some other type of 1970s action shoot,em up complete with detectives with longish hair, sideburns, and fedors chasing "perps" over fences and the like.

I know it's an instrumental song so obviously I never said that he did. I said that Ozzy was so pissed off because of this song that it gave him a reason to leave. That's also why they had Bill Ward to sing on "Swinging the chain" coz he wouldn't even show up to do it himself.

    You idiot.

Fair enough, I'll rephrase...If Iommi & Co were writing 'Heaven and Hell' material instead of this shit, Ozzy would've been interested enough to go to rehearsals and the band would not have broken up.

And Bill Ward DID sing "Swinging the Chain", dumbass.

If Iommi & Co were writing 'Heaven and Hell' material instead of this, Ozzy would've stayed. You can tell from the vocals that Ozzy is less than interested - he knew where their bread was buttered. Branching out creatively was really a luxury afforded to few bands at the time, that's why some people did solo albums in between band albums - to get it out of their system. Iommi should've done one after Technical Ecstasy...
