The BEST version of all time is sung by Leontyne Price on the Grammys c. 1983. That performance is STUNNING. I wish someone would post that!

@simisimi9 Eh-hum... Excuse me, but the BEST Vissi d'arte performance is by FAR Adelaida Negri. Although Callas is probably the BEST opera performer of all time... Ms. Negri's diminuendo from the high Bflat cannot be equalled! Even in contrast to the magnificent Montserrat Caballe... who by the way, is brilliant in her passion and phrasing, Ms. Negri wins the prize for that Tosca aria. Listen again, and you'll probably agree!

THE BEST TOSCA????........YOU MUST BE JOKING, THIS IS A GOOD JOB BUT THE BEST TOSCA WAS, IS AND WILL BE LA DIVINA MARIA CALLAS...NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, SHE IS STILL A REFERENCE FOR ANY SOPRANO IN THIS ROLE, THE BEST TOSCA EVER....PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!

She is totally inside the character and the music. Superlative in every way; Leontyne sometimes distances herself from the character but not here. Wow.

It's just difficult to say which of her performances of this aria are the best, she just does it so exquisitely EVERYTIME.

I have chills running up and down my spine. The only Vissi d'arte ever. No one before and certainly no one after. I don't believe Leontyne herself ever topped this performance of this great aria. Many thanks for listing!!!
