Disaster strikes the World as Aliens take all the water on Earth! After abusing our water resources for decades, Aliens visit and decide we are not worthy of our resource. How will our hero save the day? What lesson will they learn?
Film was created by HACS+ Productions for the Intelligent Use of Water Film Competition (http://www.iuowfilm.com/)
Alright, we've been getting a lot of feedback about the audio problems (in particular: it's hard to hear the rabbit's speech at the end) so I'm putting a transcript of her speech here since we can't change the video after the deadline for the competition.
"LILY THE RABBIT
Earth people, hear me and hear me well! You have wasted and wasted mindlessly every resource you've ever used. Most of all, you have wasted the second-most resource, akin to oxygen, to prolonging your life: water! You creatures cannot survive more than a few days without this resource yet you squander it like it is matter that can be created on its own.
You use water gratuitously: in your gardens, your recreational watering holes called "pools", inside your homes, and for your personal hygiene without any mind to responsible conservation. Your pollutants contaminate water, destroying the life that lives within yet you all continue to create products in such a way and turn a blind eye towards such production. Many of you Earth people ignore that those of lesser financial fortune have dirty drinking and bathing water, leading to squalid living conditions, but, still, you waste here.
We have come to your planet to take this resource and the animals we have disguised ourselves as away to give you the ultimate lesson to your stupidity and selective blindness. Any attempts to retaliate are futile!
You humans need not have watered your lawns so much, or wash your precious cars which use 100 gallons each time. Creating manufactured goods and producing energy need not have polluted your water sources so much that the aquatic life die for it. Polluting the groundwater with chemicals like pesticides and even household soap need not have occurred. Easy everyday changes could have stopped your foolish water waste.
With proper chemical balancing, pools can often go 10 or more years without draining and refilling.
For only $100 a pool cover regularly reduces evaporation by 90 to 95 percent. This can add up to an annual water savings of 7,000 gallons.
Spreading a layer of organic mulch around plants retains moisture and saves water, time and money.
Don't water lawns and gardens during the day. Water in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler to minimize evaporation.
Compost vegetable and fruit waste and save gallons of water.
Collect water from your roof to water your garden.
Walkways and patios provide space that doesn't need to be watered. This can also add value to your property.
Water only when necessary. More plants die from over-watering than from under-watering.
Look at what your manufacturing processing has done to your water resources.
The money that you should have spent to do proper maintenance would have been far less then what you lost in precious water.
Regular inspections should have been put in place for the conditions across the fuel lines and equipment should have been provided to make sure that they were in good condition.
You should have installed oil safety valves as they can stop the supply in the oil pipes if any damage occurs.
You have proven to us, time and time again, that you are no longer worthy of this resource. So, we will drain you of it; take it from you like a mother takes a toy from a child. The other Earthen animal species that live on your planet, that you so deem lesser than yourselves, will come with us as they do not deserve to dehydrate to death the way you will. That is our final decision and you cannot negotiate with us or try to deter our actions! Goodbye, Earth People."
Thanks everyone for the great comments. This was our first live action short and new audio equipment is definitely on the top of our wish list:)
