Remember when Capitol released that garbage "Live at the Watkins Glen" junk? Well this isn't from that, this is the REAL deal recorded on that legendary day. Thank god someone was smart enough to record and preserve this gem for us fans to hear. This is just simply amazing right from the start with the epic Bill Graham introduction. This was The Band at there finest, and may be there best show. Lets keep hoping a soundboard recording of this will be released, but in the mean time I will continue to share the highlights from this day.

  • Wild night - very wet - dry relief in the woods behind the stage area - 30 naked people drying their clothes over a bonfire eating Dinty Moore beef stew out of cans and smoking everything!

  • I am on the official Summer Jam page in Crowd Picture #3. I'm in a white shirt and bell bottoms with sunglasses and looking down as we didn't realize we were being photographed. Some awesome people let us in their tent where we shared boo and brew while it rained. Didn't know the parachutist died before he hit the ground until 6 yrs. ago. We were all high and thought it was great, a dude parachuting in. May he RIP, but they didn't tell us, and I had an awesome time!

  • Actually, the official release by Capitol were outtakes from the "Rock of Ages" New Year's Eve concert, so only snippets of the Watkins Glen show were actually in the official release. We wuz ripped off, folks. So, the official release was not even the concert that was advertised (with the exception of Garth's piece and that Jam piece). F Capitol!

Listen to the "Second" side of the rereleased Rock of Ages, then the Watkins Glen "official release", and you'll see (or hear).

  • The official release by Capitol is a studio recording with an audience dubbed in.

  • Sounds like Bill Graham doing the introduction....

  • Sorry to disagree, but the official release by Capitol was far-superior quality than this scratchy, poorly recorded garbage.

  • got anymore?

  • The essence of the Band!

  • @Downtownnomesayn

    It's a bootleg

  • "very very nice people playing great music"
