This is a song about infidelity of course. People always say, 'is this a song about you?' Lol, no, I am not having an affair at the Matador Motel (yet anyway, hehe) but I like to write story songs. Most importantly, the song's larger theme deals with how people often find their fantasies more exciting than their actual lives, but in the end, they have to come to terms with their true reality.
The Matador Motel
copyright 2011
Verse 1
Same time on their lunch hour
Office rumors spread
They don't care as long
As they're lying in this bed
Escape be found here
Room 44
Trouble is
You're always wantin' more
Chorus
Man on the sign
Waves a red cape
The stories he could tell
Of all the fallen lovers
At the Matador Motel
Many have come to search here
Along that broken trail
Sifting for dreams through reality
As the Matador Motel
Verse 2
He's got a wife and kids
He needs to feel young
She needs to count
To be his only one
Two damaged souls
Exchanging the heat
Looking for what's lost
Between this satin sheets
Bridge
Oh, they gonna put up a fight
To avoid a little of life's harsh light
Oh, but at the end of the day
Still the same 'ole game you gotta play

What a great song! A great play on words here. Wonderful lyrics Janet, only surpassed by your beautiful voice and accompaniment. It`s a beautiful song and very evocative. I loved it. I`m looking forward to catching up with the rest of your songs. Not because I have to... Because I want to.
