Hakim Momin Khan Momin حکیم مومن خان مومن (hakim means a physician), takhallus Momin مومن , was born in Delhi دہلی , India in 1800. He was born into a family of physicians linked to the Mughal Court. His ancestors had immigrated to Delhi from Kashmir کشمیر . His father, Ghulam Nabi Khan غلام نبی خان was a court physician. His father was a follower of Shah Abdul Aziz Dehlavi شاہ عبدالعزیز دہلوی ( b:1745, d:1823), who was a prominent Muslim scholar of Hadith حدیث in India and believed in armed struggle جہاد against the colonial power. It was Shah Abdul Aziz who named him Momin مومن (meaning a believer in Arabic/Farsi/Urdu). Shah Abdul Aziz was the son of Shah Waliullah شاہ ولی اللہ (b:1703, d:1762), one of the foremost reformers for the Muslims of India.
Momin got his early education at home. Then he became a student of Shah Abdu Qadir شاہ عبدالقادر . He was trained as a physician by his father and his uncle (Ghulam Haider Khan غلام حیدر خان ). He used to practice at home. After a while he got bored from the profession he inherited and got interested in astrology. He became a well known astrologer. At the same time he also started writing poetry. He had a very colorful personality. Muhammad Hussain Azad محمد حسین آزاد writes in Aab-e Hayaat آب ـ حیات that:
He had a charming appearance. He was dressed well, was very tall, and had long curly hair, which he would continuously comb with his fingers. His angrakha انگرکھا (coat or shirt) was made of malmal ململ , and his pyjamas were wide-bottomed with a red band at the lower end. In mushairas he read with such a sad and melodious voice that people became ecstatic.
It was customary in that time for poets to admire the rulers in their panegyrics قصاید to get financial rewards, but Momin never used his poetry to make money. He became a follower of Syed Ahmad Shaheed سید احمد شہید (b:1786 d.1831) of Rai Bareilly راۓ بریلی and was unhappy that he could not actively participate in the struggle جہاد . Momin fell down from the roof of his home in 1851 and died 5 months later.
He was attached to the court of Bahadur Shah Zafar بہادر شاہ ظفر and was a contemporary of Mirza Ghalib مرزا غالب . Once Mirza Ghalib said that he would trade his whole Divan for the following verse of Momin:
تم میرے پاس ہوتے ہو گویا
جب کوئ دوسرا نہیں ہوتا
Momin is one of the important poets of Urdu Ghazal. He uses a simple and effective idiom. His ghazal is renowned for its very high class. While discussing the matters of love and the beloved, he sets a limit to himself and always uses highly civilized language and expression.

Dear Khamosh, will you be doing more classical poets, like Nizami or Attar? I miss those

Did you mean videos / audios available in the market with music? I don't have access to those. I can certainly try to upload few ghazals of Attar with Urdu and English translation. Unfortunately, at this moment I don't have any access to Nizami's works.
