An ascent of the iconic Nepalese mountain Ama Dablam by Stuart Holmes (ably supported by the very capable Tim Mosedale (www.timmosedale.co.uk)) followed by the first ever descent by Speed Glider. The Yak 16.5 made by Gin Gliders weighs only 2.3kg, that's less than 3 kg total weight including harness. This type of wing made take off relatively easy in difficult gusty conditions giving a descent of just 10 minutes, thereby saving a day and a half of down-climbing.

  • Well done congratulation ,what a fight for a flight ....!!!!

  • Thanks Sebastien

  • No words!!! Amazing!!!

Could you tell me the names of the songs used?

  • Thanks for the comment. The first song is from a CD I picked up in Kathmandu, Nepali folk music, it has no titles, only track numbers so I can't help with that one. The second track is Sirocco by Christophe Goze from a CD called Buddha Beats.

  • Next time have a helmet cam - there will be a next time? Of course!

  • I had a head cam and even changed batteries and put in a new memory card to be sure to capture all of my descent, but in the busy period before take off I didn't check it was running, either I pressed the 'go' button twice or not at all and ended up with no footage. Live and learn.

  • awesome!! great display of patience and reading the wind for a launch window!! nice kite controll. and wow what an accomplishment! what a location!!

  • u are fucking good dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can barely comprehend the enormity of this and what he just did. Staggering. I have a much better grasp of why we're here and why the universe exists after seeing stuff like this.

  • What a fight with the glider, very strong wind, Its looks like very nice time very good Respect!

  • amazing video... many greetinx from munich/germany... mick

  • Dear Felltop,

believe it or not, the spot is probably much better without the head cam, like this, all is up to the imagination of the viewer as the glider goes over the cliff... good moviemakers know what not to show....

    Best,

    Dieter

  • This is so very cool I actually lack words to comment. As a paraglider pilot who spends nearly every one of my lunch hours at the office zooming to the local hike-and-fly sites, and a climber with over 35 years of experience, I truly appreciate this. As a brief and unrelated aside, I would ask Google why "No Pants Subway Ride 2009" is the top related video to this. Hmmmm... maybe it's those Chinese Hackers??? Hmmmmm.......
