Winterwood Crossing is the sister song of my Eagle Windride, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvHoDJniKXg but is also my "Hotel California" (of sorts.) Instead of a hotel, I imagined an impassable canyon. Beyond that, I don't have a clue what this song is about. I wrote it in 1977 and recorded it in 1982. I have just re-mixed it. I also had to re-master it because the master recording was damaged.
DON'T GET ME WRONG - I am no Randy Meisner, Joe Walsh, Glen Fry or Don Henley, but for a kid just learning how to play guitar, with a brand new multi-track, I think it came out ok. It was one of the first five songs I recorded. Today I do enjoy watching films about brave men who risk it all just to reach the top of the world. To be oxygen deprived at the brink of space on the summit of Everest, must feel like being trapped in a mountain jail without any crossing in sight. So as the Eagles put it, "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

Enjoy

  • can't imagine making those treks...Lewis and Clark through the Bitterroots...the Oregon Trail...You definately captured the feeling here Friend...beautiful epic

  • @reliablebow Thank you - I own the book Undaunted Courage about Lewis and Clark, and it may just be time to read it. Yes the Oregon Train and the Willey and Martin Handcart Companies. My wife's family goes back to Ebenezer Brown of the Mormon Battalion and the Sutter’s Mill gold discovery. Undaunted courage indeed. I have two more songs you may like. (It’s a) Long Hard Road, and Eagle Windride.) I will be uploading a western story song soon. Enjoy

  • You've captured a rawness and realness that's difficult to be captured. I love the production quality of the guitars and the vocals. You've really done an amazing job with this one. (Side note: one of my favorite fantasies is climbing up Everst! If there's ever an exposition of YouTubers who decide to make the treck, let me know! I'd definitely make it for this one.)

  • @BloodTrucksandBeer Your Everst quest is one I will miss. I'm so old, just moving my fingers up and down the guitar nearly puts me in my death bed. Try as I might, I have never been able to write another song like this again.

  • really stuning song this really works for me the vidoe is great 2 very nice

  • @bedsitsongbird33 Thank you. The falling show just makes it feel cold.

  • @bamsdram Thank You - Now that you said that, I am reminded of two groups of survivors. The Donner Party of 1846 were American Pioneers became snowbound on their way to California via wagon train when an early deep record snow fall trapped in the Sierra Nevada’s. Also Andes Survivors of 1972 who were in an airplane crash high in the Andes. Both groups of survivors must have gone mad and ended up practicing cannibalism just trying to stay alive....

  • This song makes me think of the early pioneers of your great land, they must have been made of strong stuff. Enjoyed both song and video.
