  • What antenna are you using?

    '73

  • I'm just using a cb antenna as the signal that gets transmited is very strong but a wire antenna for 7mhz would work alot better though.

  • Its WXsat, it can be downloaded for free from the net.

  • is this 78 mhz or 7.8? my shortwave uses khz.

  • Yes, I know a few people who really rate the De1102/3. In WXsat, have you checked the FM Tuning for optimal reception? And there is the option on the same drop-down menu, right above or below FM Tuning... I forget what its called now.... you can set the volume to an optimal level. Other than that, you are at the mercy of shortwave... fading is a problem you just have to accept.

  • I've got WXsat going pretty well but again I'm trying out another program; JVCOMM32 which is giving good results. Also, there seems to be a major problem with the Target receiver so I've got to get that looked at. Got a cheap Degen DE1103 receiver and that is getting a clearer reception with just a basic telescopic antenna.

Is there any way to alter the squelch sensitivity on WXsat as it tends to cut-out when the signal gets low even when in the middle of recieving a fax?

  • Once youve done the slant correction in WXsat, you never have to do it again. You could try Seatty (shareware) which gives you 30days free.

  • BTW, WXSat is a pain to set up the Skew - took me about four hours of tinkering to get a viewable image. Weatherfax 2000 is a splendid prog for this, but is crippled to only 30 uses/30days and would cost a fortune if you was serious, but is very easily configured and produces a less noisy picture.

Is there any other freeware progs out there for the windows operating system?

  • I have used a NASA Target HF reciever and a long wire and managed to get a reasonable recperion even given we seem to get a lot of powerline adapter noise! I can only recieve the 4608 Mhz SSB transmission, our location is Chatteris, Cambs UK. I can only get the transmissions from about 09:00 to about 14:00. Any ideas of a better antenna to use? I cannot recieve any other transmissions from Northwood.

  • Fantastic video :-)

  • Good stuff. I often pick up Hamburg on 7878kHz. Managed to get what I think is a satellite rebroadcast from Halifax, Nova Scotia. But have been unable to repeat this minor success since! Nice vid.
