This song is from the 'Eat a Peach" album and the first song the band did without Duane Allman, who died four months before it was released. The lyrics: "Crossroads, will you ever let him go" is perhaps a reference to Robert Johnson, blues guitarist, who went to a crossroad and solded his soul to the devil.

I wasn't named for it, but I damn sure claim it! (This first, with "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrisson being a close second, lol)!

very true brother, in a store from a woman calling out to her daughter and true again about Barbara, it just didn't sound right.

Ummm, no its not about that. I just read Greg Allman's Autobiograpy that he wrote & it's about a woman named Barbara that he really liked but couldn't have. An old woman in a convenience store called out Melissa to her Granddaughter & that is where he got "Melissa".
